discussion
There will be three discussion sessions. The subjects are meant only to conjure up a space, open ended, allowing each writer to pass through it as they wish. There are no specific speakers or panels, so that it can be a real conversation.
Sessions 1 and 2
Friday, Feb. 13, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm, Private Dining Hall
Saturday, Feb. 14, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm, Annexe Lawns
Many of the Indian writers at this conference have been in dialogue with the forms, texts, and art of our long past, with past as space or time, even a past beyond history, along with an overwhelming present, in their own work. This seems almost inevitable in the context of old civilisations. What kind of a presence is the past for contemporary writers in both India and China?
Moderators: Ashis Nandy/Sharmistha Mohanty
Session 3
Sunday, Feb. 15, 10:00 am – 1:00 pm, Conference Room 1
Having come from this long past, what is our understanding of the new, in poetry and prose, what is innovation for us, and what are the many ways in which we approach it?
Moderator: Vivek Narayanan
The Dialogues continue at Fatehpur Sikri from Feb. 16–18.
